  • Australian Novated Lease FBT Exemption Breakdown (2026): BYD Sealion 7 vs Seal vs Shark 6 Real Take-Home Pay Numbers
    Liam_Shark6L Liam_Shark6
    Pricing, Finance & Warranty

With the Australian EV Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption continuing for battery electric vehicles under the $91,387 LCT threshold (note: PHEVs ended their FBT exemption cutoff on 1 April 2025 unless grandfathered), here is a side-by-side look at actual fortnightly take-home pay impact for a $120,000 gross salary on a 36-month novated lease (15,000 km/yr, self-managed quote):

    1. BYD Seal Dynamic ($51,500 drive-away, 100% FBT Exempt)

    • Net out-of-pocket impact on take-home pay: $248 / fortnight (includes rego, comprehensive insurance, tyres, servicing & charging allowance)
    • Residual balloon at 36 months (46.88%): $22,950 (inc GST)

    2. BYD Sealion 7 Design RWD (~$59,800 drive-away, 100% FBT Exempt)

    • Net out-of-pocket impact: $289 / fortnight all-inclusive.

Pro tip: Always ask your novated provider for the bare finance rate (aim for 7.2%–8.1% effective) and source your own comprehensive insurance rather than taking their bundled $2,600/yr policy!

  • DMO 1.5T Stationary Generator & High-Load Sand Driving Strategy: 50,000 km Telemetry Insights (Shark 6 & Denza B5)

    BYD Shark 6 Ute byd-shark-6 denza-b5 dmi-hybrid-settings 4x4-offroad-mods australia

After digging into long-term DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) owner telemetry from over 50,000 km of desert and high-country touring on the 1.5T DMO powertrain used in our BYD Shark 6 and Denza B5, here are the key settings that make a massive difference off-road:

DMO 1.5T Stationary Generator & High-Load Sand Driving Strategy: 50,000 km Telemetry Insights (Shark 6 & Denza B5)

    1. Soft Sand & Steep High-Country Climb Settings

    • Never enter soft beach sand below 35% SOC: In deep sand, both the front (170 kW) and rear (150 kW) traction motors pull continuous high current. Set SOC Save to 60% in "Forced" mode 15 minutes before airing down your tyres.
    • Sand Mode vs Mud Mode: Sand Mode raises the DMO inline generator target RPM by ~400 rpm so the 1.5T engine can supply up to 18–22 kW of continuous serial charging while you drive.

    2. Stationary High-Power Generator Mode

    • With the vehicle in P (Park) via the Energy Screen, the 1.5T engine engages Stationary High-Rate Charging at up to 20 kW, recharging the 29.58 kWh Blade Battery from 25% to 80% in ~48 minutes using roughly 4.1 litres of unleaded petrol.

Have fellow Shark 6 owners tested Forced 60% SOC Hold on beach runs or long caravan climbs yet?

Translated & adapted from long-term DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) owner telemetry shared on the Dongchedi (懂车帝) & Autohome DMO Technical Club, where owners have already logged over 50,000 km in desert and high-country conditions on the exact same 1.5T DMO powertrain used in our BYD Shark 6 and Denza B5:

DMO 1.5T Stationary Generator & High-Load Sand Driving Strategy: Insights from 50,000 km DMO Owners (Shark 6 & Denza B5)

    1. Soft Sand & Steep High-Country Climb Settings

    • Never enter soft beach sand below 35% SOC: In deep sand, both the front (170 kW) and rear (150 kW) traction motors pull continuous high current. Set SOC Save to 60% in "Forced (强制保电)" mode 15 minutes before airing down your tyres.
    • Sand Mode vs Mud Mode: Sand Mode raises the DMO inline generator target RPM by ~400 rpm so the 1.5T engine can supply up to 18–22 kW of continuous serial charging while you drive.

    2. Stationary High-Power Generator Mode ("原地发电")

    • With the vehicle in P (Park) and brake pedal pressed once while tapping the throttle twice (or via the Energy Screen), the 1.5T engine engages Stationary High-Rate Charging at up to 20 kW, recharging the 29.58 kWh Blade Battery from 25% to 80% in ~48 minutes using roughly 4.1 litres of unleaded petrol.

  • BYD Shark 6 Dual-Battery Setup vs Built-In 6kW V2L for Running a 75L Dual-Zone Fridge on 5-Day Simpson Desert Trips
    Liam_Shark6L Liam_Shark6
    BYD Shark 6 Ute byd-shark-6 v2l-camping-power 4x4-offroad-mods australia

    G'day everyone,

    BYD Shark 6 Dual-Battery Setup vs Built-In 6kW V2L for Running a 75L Dual-Zone Fridge on 5-Day Simpson Desert Trips

I'm prepping my BYD Shark 6 Premium for a 5-day outback camping trip and trying to decide whether I even need a traditional 12V lithium auxiliary battery + DCDC charger in the tub.

With the 29.58 kWh Blade Battery feeding the three 240V V2L outlets in the tray (up to 6 kW total output), I tested running my 75L National Luna dual-zone fridge/freezer plus camp LED lighting directly off the tub 240V socket for 48 hours in the driveway:

    • Ambient temp: 31°C day / 18°C night
    • Total traction battery drop over 48 hours: Just 4% SOC (from 82% down to 78%).
    • Even if SOC drops to 20% at camp, the 1.5T DMO generator can top it back up in 25 minutes.

Has anyone else ditched the 12V secondary battery completely on their Shark 6, or is there a catch with leaving V2L active overnight in dusty conditions?

  • Denza B5 (Bao 5) DiSus-P Hydraulic Suspension vs Standard Coil Springs: Worth Waiting for the Flagship Trim?
    Liam_Shark6L Liam_Shark6
    Denza B5 / Fangchengbao Bao 5 & Bao 8 denza-b5 fangchengbao-bao-5 suspension-handling australia

With BYD confirming that Fangchengbao models will be badged under Denza for right-hand-drive markets in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, the big question for touring buyers is the suspension setup on the Denza B5 (Bao 5).

Denza B5 (Bao 5) DiSus-P Hydraulic Suspension vs Standard Coil Springs: Worth Waiting for the Flagship Trim?

In China, the Bao 5 comes in two distinct suspension configurations:

    1. Standard Coil-Over Double Wishbone (fixed ride height, 220mm ground clearance).
    2. DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System (adjustable ride height up to 310mm ground clearance, 140mm travel adjustment, and active roll stiffness control).

For anyone planning to fit a bullbar, winch, and 275/70R18 AT tyres for Simpson Desert or Kimberley corrugations:

    • Does DiSus-P complicate aftermarket GVM upgrades?
    • Or does the hydraulic height adjustment eliminate the need for a 2-inch aftermarket lift altogether?
