Lots of discussion in the ute community this week about BYD testing a 2.0-Litre Turbo Heavy-Duty DMO variant of the Shark 6 rated for a full 3,500 kg braked towing capacity alongside our current 1.5T DMO model:

1. Key Highlights & What Stood Out to Me
Following owner feedback from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, BYD truck engineers have been testing an upgraded 2.0-Litre Turbo DMO Heavy-Duty powertrain alongside the 1.5T DMO Shark 6:
- 2.0T Dedicated Hybrid Engine + High-Capacity Blade Pack: Boosts sustained generator output under heavy towing loads.
- 3,500 kg Braked Towing Rating: Upgraded rear chassis crossmember, heavy-duty variable-rate rear coils, and factory-integrated electronic trailer brake controller.
- Existing 1.5T Shark 6 owners also receive improved Tow Mode SOC Hold curves via the v26.09 DiLink OTA update!
2. Closer Look at the Specs & Hardware Packaging

3. Do You Actually Need 3,500 kg Towing, or Is 2,500 kg Enough?
Most dual-cab owners tow boats, camper trailers, or 2.2T caravans where the 1.5T Shark 6 is already effortless—would you pay extra for a 2.0T 3.5T-rated heavy-duty trim?
