DMO 1.5T Stationary Generator & High-Load Sand Driving Strategy: 50,000 km Telemetry Insights (Shark 6 & Denza B5)
-
After digging into long-term DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) owner telemetry from over 50,000 km of desert and high-country touring on the 1.5T DMO powertrain used in our BYD Shark 6 and Denza B5, here are the key settings that make a massive difference off-road:

1. Soft Sand & Steep High-Country Climb Settings
- Never enter soft beach sand below 35% SOC: In deep sand, both the front (170 kW) and rear (150 kW) traction motors pull continuous high current. Set SOC Save to 60% in "Forced" mode 15 minutes before airing down your tyres.
- Sand Mode vs Mud Mode: Sand Mode raises the DMO inline generator target RPM by ~400 rpm so the 1.5T engine can supply up to 18–22 kW of continuous serial charging while you drive.
2. Stationary High-Power Generator Mode
- With the vehicle in P (Park) via the Energy Screen, the 1.5T engine engages Stationary High-Rate Charging at up to 20 kW, recharging the 29.58 kWh Blade Battery from 25% to 80% in ~48 minutes using roughly 4.1 litres of unleaded petrol.
Have fellow Shark 6 owners tested Forced 60% SOC Hold on beach runs or long caravan climbs yet?

This is gold—seeing real 50,000 km desert data on the DMO drivetrain saves us so much trial and error here in Australia!
Tested Forced 60% SOC + Sand Mode on Bribie Island last weekend in my Shark 6 at 18 PSI and the battery stayed pinned between 58% and 61% the whole afternoon.
