1,250 km Tasmania Lap (Hobart, Cradle Mountain, Freycinet & Launceston) in Our BYD Atto 3
-
Took our BYD Atto 3 across on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Geelong to Devonport for a 7-day, 1,250 km lap of Tasmania!

On-Road Impressions, Efficiency & Setup Details
- Winding mountain roads up to Cradle Mountain and down Elephant Pass were a blast—low centre of gravity and instant regen on the hairpins.
- Charged easily across Tasmania's Chargefox network in Launceston, Swansea, and Hobart.
-
Taking your own EV across on the Spirit of Tasmania is on my bucket list! Did you have to keep SOC below a certain % for the ferry crossing?
@felix_muc No restrictions at all—just parked on the vehicle deck with the handbrake and alarm Tilt Sensor toggled off in DiLink settings.

@paul_h_goldcoast Good tip about toggling off the anti-tilt alarm setting when parking on a rolling car ferry!

Completely agree on the practical usability. Being able to run a 2,000W induction stove and espresso maker off the V2L socket while only dropping 3% SOC over an afternoon is a game changer.
-
I ran the exact same test last month on a rainy weekend trip. Regen braking in High mode remained super predictable, and the LFP pack voltage delta stayed under 12 mV on my OBD2 scanner.

Thanks for sharing the real-world numbers! Dealers rarely explain this clearly during handover, so having verified owner telemetry on the forum saves everyone a lot of guesswork.
-
For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.
-
Followed this guide step-by-step in the garage this afternoon—took less than 20 minutes and worked first time without any warning lights.

Subscribed to this thread. Has anyone here compared this behaviour before and after the latest DiLink OTA firmware update? Mine felt noticeably smoother in low-speed traffic afterwards.

Bookmarking this thread for reference. The build quality and LFP thermal consistency on long climbs have exceeded expectations so far.
