With right-hand-drive testing of the Denza B5 (known as the Fangchengbao Bao 5 overseas) now confirmed on Australian and UK roads, a lot of us who love the Shark 6 drivetrain but want a wagon body (like a Prado / Defender alternative) are watching closely.

Denza B5 (Fangchengbao Bao 5) vs BYD Shark 6: Comparing the DMO 4x4 Ladder-Frame Platform for Australia & UK

On-Road Impressions, Efficiency & Setup Details

Here is how the Denza B5 stacks up mechanically against our BYD Shark 6:

Spec / Feature BYD Shark 6 Premium Denza B5 (Bao 5 RHD Spec)
Platform BYD DMO Body-on-Frame (CTC Blade) BYD DMO Body-on-Frame (CTC Blade)
Wheelbase 3,260 mm (Long ute wheelbase) 2,800 mm (Nimble 4x4 wagon wheelbase)
    Combined Output 321 kW / 650 Nm (1.5T + Dual Motors) 505 kW / 760 Nm (1.5T + Higher-output Rear Motor)
Diff Locks Virtual electronic brake lock + energy transfer Front & Rear Mechanical Differential Locks + Tank Turn
Suspension Double wishbone coil F/R double wishbone + DiSus-P hydraulic active height control (on flagship)
Blade Battery 29.58 kWh LFP 31.8 kWh LFP

The shorter 2,800mm wheelbase (460mm shorter than the Shark 6!) plus true mechanical front/rear lockers and a 35-degree approach angle means the B5 is going to be an absolute weapon in the Victorian High Country and Simpson Desert. Would you trade your Shark 6 for a B5 wagon, or keep the dual-cab ute tray?

That 2,800mm wheelbase and mechanical rear/front diff locks are the two things that will convert hardcore LandCruiser Prado 250 buyers. On the Shark 6, the 3,260mm wheelbase is great for highway stability when towing, but you definitely have to watch your ramp-over angle over rocky ledges.

505 kW and 760 Nm in a mid-size 4x4 wagon is mental. My Shark 6 with 321 kW already embarrasses warm hatches off the lights — adding another 180 kW and DiSus-P hydraulic lift will make it untouchable on sand dunes.

iTAC torque vectoring + double-wishbone front end = proper B-road weapon

Do we know if the RHD Australian Denza B5 will keep the full 3,000kg or 3,500kg braked towing rating? In Europe/UK some of the early Bao 5 specs listed 2,500kg similar to the Shark 6.

Word from the Sydney showroom preview last month is 2,500kg braked towing with a 250kg towball download on the standard coil version, and they're working on ADR validation for 3,000kg. Honestly, for 90% of people towing camper trailers or boats under 2.5T, the DMO powertrain is far nicer to live with day-to-day than a clattery 4-cylinder diesel.

Spotted a camouflaged RHD Denza B5 testing near Millbrook here in the UK two weeks ago! If they price the entry coil-sprung B5 within £5k–£7k of the Land Rover Defender 90/110 or Toyota Land Cruiser, it'll fly out of dealerships.

Good catch on those specifications. I checked the service manual torque specs and fuse layout over the weekend and everything matches what you outlined here.

Spot on breakdown. One detail I noticed after logging another 2,500 km is that the thermal management loop stays completely silent below 32°C ambient unless you chain two fast DC sessions back-to-back.

Followed this guide step-by-step in the garage this afternoon—took less than 20 minutes and worked first time without any warning lights.
