If your earlier-build BYD Atto 3 came on the OEM Atlas Batman A51 (215/55R18) or Continental EcoContact 6Q (235/50R18) and you're tired of spinning the front wheels in the wet at roundabouts, changing tyres transforms the car more than any other upgrade.

Goodbye "Batman" Tyres! Best Replacement Tyres for BYD Atto 3 (Michelin Primacy 4 vs Hankook iON evo vs Bridgestone Turanza)

After polling 60+ owners across Australia, UK, and NZ, here are the top 3 verified replacements for 235/50R18 101V XL:

    1. Michelin Primacy 4 ST / Primacy 4+ (235/50R18 101Y XL) — Best All-Rounder & Wet Grip

    • Wet Braking & Traction: Completely eliminates wet wheelspin off the line unless you mash the throttle mid-corner.
    • Noise: Drops cabin road roar on coarse-chip Australian country highways by ~2.5 dB.
    • Efficiency: Negligible impact (+0.3 kWh/100km for the first 1,500 km until the mould release wears off, then identical to stock).

    2. Hankook iON evo SUV IK01A (235/50R18 101V XL) — Best EV-Specific Range & Foam Lining

    • Built-in Sound Absorber Foam: Polyurethane acoustic foam inside the carcass absorbs cavity resonance over concrete joins.
    • Efficiency: Lowest rolling resistance of the group — saves ~0.5 kWh/100km on highway runs.

    3. Continental UltraContact UC7 (AU/NZ) or CrossContact AllSeason (UK/EU)

    • Great value option in Bob Jane / Jax Tyres 4-for-3 promos in AU, or Michelin CrossClimate 2 for UK/Scottish owners dealing with winter slush.

Swapped the Atlas Batmans off our Parkour Red Atto 3 in Canberra at 20,000 km for Michelin Primacy 4 ST during a Bob Jane 4-for-3 sale ($960 fitted & aligned). Honestly feels like a different car in the rain — used to trigger traction control constantly on wet painted pedestrian crossings, now it just hooks up and goes.

Put Hankook iON evo SUV on our 2024 Atto 3 Design in Manchester last autumn. The acoustic foam inside the tyre really works on British concrete motorways (M25 / M62), and wet grip is leagues ahead of the EcoContact 6Q.

Important note for 2022–2023 Atto 3 owners upgrading from the narrower 215/55R18 to the 2024+ factory size 235/50R18: both use the exact same 18x7.5J alloy wheel rim! So 235/50R18 bolts straight onto early rims with zero issues and gives you an extra 20mm of rubber footprint on the road.

What tyre pressure are you all running on the 235/50R18 Michelins? The door placard says 250 kPa (36 PSI), which always felt a bit soft on the front axle.

38 PSI (265 kPa) cold all round is the magic number for 235/50R18 on the Atto 3. Wears dead flat across the tread shoulders and sharpens up turn-in without making the ride harsh.

Good catch on those specifications. I checked the service manual torque specs and fuse layout over the weekend and everything matches what you outlined here.

I ran the exact same test last month on a rainy weekend trip. Regen braking in High mode remained super predictable, and the LFP pack voltage delta stayed under 12 mV on my OBD2 scanner.

Appreciate the honest perspective! Every EV and PHEV platform has trade-offs, and seeing real long-term feedback like this is why independent owner forums are way more useful than brochure numbers.

My experience has been almost identical over the past 4 months. Zero rattles in the cabin so far, and the 360-degree camera clarity at night is still the best in its price bracket.

Great write-up! If anyone is on the fence, definitely take a 45-minute test drive on coarse-chip highway tarmac first — the acoustic glass makes a bigger difference than the spec sheet suggests.
