BYD Atto 3 60.5 kWh Blade Battery: Real-World Highway vs Urban Efficiency Log
-
Sharing my detailed energy consumption and charging log on the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range (60.5 kWh Blade Battery) across First 5,000 km of mixed commuter and highway driving.

1. Real-World Consumption Breakdown
- Urban / Suburban Commute (40–70 km/h, High Regen, Eco Mode): Consistently averaging 13.4 to 14.2 kWh/100km, translating to 420–440 km of real urban range per charge.
- 110 km/h Motorway Cruise (AC set to 22°C, 38 PSI tyre pressure): Consumption settles at 17.6 to 18.4 kWh/100km, giving a reliable 315–330 km highway leg with a 10% SOC buffer.
2. DC Fast Charging & 7kW AC Wallbox Notes
- On a 150 kW CCS2 charger, plugging in at 12% SOC pulls 88 kW peak up to 48% SOC, then steps down to 56 kW until 78% SOC (10% to 80% takes 33 minutes).
- Overnight 7kW AC single-phase charging from rooftop solar/off-peak grid adds ~11% SOC per hour with ~92.5% charging efficiency.

@DeclanWilson Spot on numbers! On my Atto 3, dropping cold tyre pressures from the dealer-inflated 41 PSI down to 37 PSI all round improved wet grip massively and barely changed highway kWh/100km.

@Matilda_UrbanEV Agreed on the charging curve. I always unplug at 80% SOC on road trips because the 80–95% taper drops below 32 kW, so it is much faster to unplug and hit the next CCS2 charger.

@Logan_R_Seal Have you done the 100% SOC balancing charge once a month? Keeping that habit has kept my GOM range estimation rock solid with zero BMS drift.
-
For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.

Great write-up! If anyone is on the fence, definitely take a 45-minute test drive on coarse-chip highway tarmac first — the acoustic glass makes a bigger difference than the spec sheet suggests.
