Just got back from a 2,400 km coastal road trip with 4 nights of unpowered national park camping, running our entire camp kitchen and fridge off the 3.3 kW V2L discharge socket!

BYD Coastal Road Trip & V2L Camping Setup

    1. Highway Touring & Charging Breakdown

    • Total Distance: 2,418 km (70% 110 km/h motorway, 30% winding coastal & mountain pass roads).
    • Tyre Pressures: Set to 38 PSI cold all round before departure with two adults, roof pod, and 95 kg of camping gear in the boot.

    2. Off-Grid V2L Camp Power Usage (4 Nights)

Technical Spotlight: Off-Grid V2L Camp Power Usage (4 Nights) — chassis, drivetrain, and real-world telemetry details.

    • Ran a 55L dual-zone 12V/240V compressor fridge, a 1,800W single-burner induction cooktop for dinner/coffee, LED camp festoon lights, and charged two e-bike batteries.
    • Total battery drain overnight + cooking averaged just 4.5% to 6.0% SOC per 24 hours—completely silent with zero petrol generator fumes!

Nothing beats brewing morning espresso and cooking bacon & eggs on an induction hob out in the bush off V2L while everyone else is messing around with gas bottles!

@OwenB_MEL 4.5% to 6% SOC per day running a 55L fridge and induction stove is super efficient. Did you use a weatherproof box over the V2L powerboard overnight in case of dew or rain?

We did a 1,800 km Scotland NC500 road trip with a similar V2L setup last month—charging the e-bikes in the boot while driving between stops worked like a charm too.

@OwenB_MEL Yes! We used a $22 IP54 weatherproof cable box tucked right under the rear diffuser and ran a flat orange heavy-duty lead into the awning tent.

@Logan_R_Seal Ran our 65L Engel fridge and induction camp stove off the V2L socket for a 3-night trip last weekend—used less than 7% SOC total with Camp Mode enabled in the Energy Manager!
