Real-World 3-Year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): BYD Atto 3 vs Toyota RAV4 Petrol & Hybrid
-
Ran a full spreadsheet comparing 3 years / 60,000 km Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) between our BYD Atto 3 Extended Range and a comparable mid-size petrol/hybrid SUV:

- Fuel vs Electricity (60,000 km): RAV4 at 6.5 L/100km ($2.05/L) = $8,000 AUD vs Atto 3 charged off rooftop solar/off-peak (6c/kWh) = $580 AUD.
- Capped-Price Servicing (3 Years): ~$780 total.
- Novated Lease FBT Exemption (Australia) / 2% BIK Company Car Tax (UK): Saves an additional $4,500–$6,200 per year in income tax!

Saving $7,400 in fuel alone over 60,000 km before even counting the pre-tax salary sacrifice savings is why we switched both our family cars to BYD.

@G_Kerr_TAS Here in the UK on a 2% BIK company car salary sacrifice scheme, my brand-new BYD Seal costs me less net out of my monthly payslip than running my old 6-year-old diesel BMW!

@Trevor_UrbanEV Plus zero timing belts, zero spark plugs, zero DPF filters, and zero brake pad replacements in the first 100,000 km.

Thanks for sharing the real-world numbers! Dealers rarely explain this clearly during handover, so having verified owner telemetry on the forum saves everyone a lot of guesswork.

For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.

My experience has been almost identical over the past 4 months. Zero rattles in the cabin so far, and the 360-degree camera clarity at night is still the best in its price bracket.
