7kW Single-Phase vs 11kW/22kW Three-Phase Home Wallbox Installation Guide for BYD Owners
-
Before paying for a 22kW 3-phase home charger, check your specific BYD model's On-Board AC Charger (OBC) rating:

On-Road Impressions, Efficiency & Setup Details
- BYD Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 6 & Shark 6 (Standard RHD): 7 kW Single-Phase AC (32A) -> Adds ~11–12% SOC per hour.
- BYD Seal, Dolphin Design & Sealion 7 (UK/EU 3-Phase Builds): 11 kW Three-Phase AC (16A per phase) -> Full charge in ~6.5 hours.
For 95% of households, a 7.4 kW smart solar-aware wallbox (Zappi, Fronius Wattpilot, Evnex, or Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector) easily fills the battery from 20% to 100% during a 6-hour overnight off-peak window!

Great summary! Even on a 3-phase house in Australia, if the car has a 7kW single-phase OBC, a 22kW charger will only supply 7.4kW (32A) on Phase 1.
@Rhys_N_EV Installed a myenergi Zappi 7kW tethered Type 2 charger—Eco+ mode automatically dumps 100% of our spare rooftop solar into the Atto 3.

@Connor_M_Seal Don't forget to use a Type A RCD + 6mA DC protection (or dedicated EV RCBO) at the switchboard!

Appreciate the honest perspective! Every EV and PHEV platform has trade-offs, and seeing real long-term feedback like this is why independent owner forums are way more useful than brochure numbers.
