-
Just wrapped up a 1,500 km South Island winter ski trip from Christchurch through Tekapo and Lindis Pass down to Cardrona and Coronet Peak in our BYD Sealion 7 AWD.

On-Road Impressions, Efficiency & Setup Details
- Fitted Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV all-season snow-rated tyres.
- Snow Mode + iTAC AWD torque vectoring climbed the icy Cardrona access road at -4°C without a single wheel slip.
- Used scheduled Battery Pre-Heating + Cabin Warm-Up in the BYD App 15 minutes before taking off our ski boots—stepping into a 22°C cabin with heated steering wheel and seats at the top of the mountain is unbeatable!

Pre-heating the cabin and steering wheel from the BYD App while walking off the ski slopes to the car park is the best winter feature ever.

@marcus_nguy_de CrossClimate 2 SUV tyres paired with BYD's iTAC AWD snow mode make chains redundant on 95% of ski days up Remarkables and Cardrona.

@AvaPatel Did you use the ChargeNet 300 kW hyperchargers in Tekapo or Cromwell on the way down?

@N_Smith_SYD Plugged into the Cromwell 300 kW hypercharger at 18% SOC after pre-conditioning the battery—pulled 218 kW even in 2°C ambient temps!

Appreciate the honest perspective! Every EV and PHEV platform has trade-offs, and seeing real long-term feedback like this is why independent owner forums are way more useful than brochure numbers.

My experience has been almost identical over the past 4 months. Zero rattles in the cabin so far, and the 360-degree camera clarity at night is still the best in its price bracket.
-
For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.

Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Tested these exact settings on my weekend highway run and cabin NVH + efficiency were spot on.
