As an OZEV-approved EVSE installer in Yorkshire (and daily driver of a BYD Seal), I get asked every week which 7kW single-phase home charger pairs best with BYD's onboard AC charger. Here is my hands-on breakdown for UK, Australian, and New Zealand households:

Best 7kW Home Smart Wallbox for Solar Divert & Off-Peak EV Tariffs (UK, AU & NZ): myenergi Zappi v2.1 vs Ohme Home Pro vs Evnex E2

    1. myenergi Zappi GLO / v2.1 (7kW / 22kW) — King of Rooftop Solar Export Divert (AU & UK)

    • Why it wins for Solar: Built-in CT clamp monitoring lets you run Eco+ mode, which waits until your rooftop solar export exceeds 1.4 kW (6A) and dynamically modulates charge speed to match passing clouds so you import zero grid power.
    • Built-in PEN Fault Protection & RCD: No separate earth rod needed in the UK.

    2. Ohme Home Pro / Ohme ePod — Best for UK Octopus Intelligent Go & OVO Charge Anytime

    • Why it wins for Smart Tariffs: Integrates via API directly with Octopus Intelligent Go (7p/kWh). Even though BYD doesn't expose a direct vehicle API to Octopus yet, Ohme acts as the smart device — you just tell the Ohme app "Add 55% to my BYD Seal by 7:00 AM" and Ohme unlocks extra 7p/kWh daytime and overnight slots automatically!

    3. Evnex E2 / E2 Plus (7.4kW) — Best Made-in-NZ & Australian Heat-Rated Charger

    • Designed and built in Christchurch NZ with tough UV-stabilised polycarbonate casing that laughs at 42°C Aussie sun, native solar diversion, and clean local support.

Can vouch for the myenergi Zappi v2.1 here in Melbourne! We have 10kW of panels on the roof, and from September through April our Atto 3 charges 100% off surplus solar in Eco+ mode without touching the grid.

For anyone in the UK on Octopus Intelligent Go, getting an Ohme Home Pro is a complete no-brainer. You select your exact BYD model (Atto 3 / Dolphin / Seal / Seal U) in the Ohme app, plug in when you get home at 5 PM, and Octopus frequently gives you cheap 7p/kWh whole-house electricity slots from 8 PM onwards!

Running the Evnex E2 in Christchurch NZ on our Atto 3 and my brother has one in Wellington for his Dolphin. The app shows exact solar vs grid kWh split and calculates savings against your Meridian/Octopus NZ time-of-use tariff.

One installer tip for Australian homes with 3-phase power: remember that the BYD Atto 3 (early MY22/23), Sealion 6, and Shark 6 have a 7kW single-phase onboard AC charger, whereas the BYD Seal, Sealion 7, and 2024+ Dolphin/Atto 3 in Europe/UK support 11kW 3-phase. Make sure your sparky balances the phases on your switchboard!

Once you go instant electric torque, there is no going back.
