Thought I'd share our 12,000 km fuel & electricity log on our BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic (FWD 1.5L naturally aspirated DM-i) compared to my brother-in-law's Sealion 6 Premium (AWD 1.5T twin-motor) on the same Sydney-to-Canberra M31 run.

BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic vs Premium AWD: Real-World Highway Fuel Consumption at 110 km/h After 12,000 km

Methodology (Both cars starting at 95% SOC, cruise set to 110 km/h, AC at 22°C):

    • Sealion 6 Dynamic (FWD): Averaged 4.6 L/100km + 4.1 kWh/100km using HEV + Auto SOC (50% target).
    • Sealion 6 Premium (AWD): Averaged 5.8 L/100km + 4.5 kWh/100km under the exact same conditions.

Around town on pure EV mode (weekdays, charging off rooftop solar), both cars use zero petrol, though the Dynamic gets about 12 km more pure EV range per charge. For anyone tossing up between the two trims, how are your highway numbers looking?

4.6 L/100km at 110 km/h in a mid-size family SUV is super economical. I have the Premium AWD here in Melbourne and 5.7–5.9 L/100km on the Hume Highway matches my numbers.

The extra 1.2 L/100km on the highway is the trade-off for 238 kW and 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds when overtaking road trains!

@chris_ev_melb Agreed—and here in the UK where ours is badged BYD Seal U DM-i Boost vs Design, the AWD Design trim is huge in winter rain. Pro tip for highway runs: set SOC Save to 60% in Forced mode as soon as you merge onto the motorway, then switch to pure EV for the last 30 miles into the city.

Does the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine in the Dynamic ever feel loud when climbing steep grades like the Blue Mountains or Toowoomba Range if the battery drops below 25%?
