BYD Dolphin vs Dolphin Mini (Atto 1): Practicality, Boot Space & Highway Stability
-
For anyone cross-shopping the BYD Dolphin against the ultra-compact BYD Dolphin Mini (Atto 1), I spent a week driving both back-to-back over 12,000 km Owner Telemetry of city streets and ring-road motorways.

Direct Comparison:
- City Parking & Agility: The Dolphin Mini (Atto 1) slots into tiny kerbside gaps effortlessly and sips just 10.8 kWh/100km around town.
- Motorway Poise (110 km/h): The larger BYD Dolphin (60.4 kWh) with its longer wheelbase and multi-link rear suspension feels noticeably more planted in crosswinds.
- Boot & Split-Floor Storage: Adding a moulded lower boot liner under the Dolphin's adjustable false floor easily holds the Type 2 cable, V2L strip, and tyre kit out of sight.

@craig_b_syd The split-level boot floor in the Dolphin is a game changer—keeps the main boot completely flat when folding the 60/40 rear seats down.

@lukas_v_at Both cars having 360-degree surround cameras as standard makes kerbside parallel parking so easy, zero chance of kerbing the alloys.

@Hannah_Z9GT For a pure city runabout the Atto 1 / Dolphin Mini is brilliant value, but if you do 100+ km motorway runs twice a week, the 60.4 kWh Dolphin is worth every extra cent.

@Charlie_Z9GT Followed your advice over the weekend and it worked a treat. Cheers for sharing!

@AlistairCooper Thanks for posting the exact numbers—bookmarked this thread for my upcoming service.

I ran the exact same test last month on a rainy weekend trip. Regen braking in High mode remained super predictable, and the LFP pack voltage delta stayed under 12 mV on my OBD2 scanner.

Thanks for sharing the real-world numbers! Dealers rarely explain this clearly during handover, so having verified owner telemetry on the forum saves everyone a lot of guesswork.
