Hooked up our 2.2-tonne tandem-axle off-road caravan to the BYD Shark 6 for a 1,400 km test run from Brisbane up to Airlie Beach.

Towing a 2,200 kg Off-Road Caravan 1,400 km Through Queensland in Our BYD Shark 6 DMO

    Towing Telemetry & Settings:

    • Mode: Engaged Tow Mode + set Forced SOC Hold at 60% before merging onto the Bruce Highway.
    • Cruising Speed: 95–100 km/h with Redarc Tow-Pro Elite brake controller.
    • Fuel Consumption: Averaged 11.4 L/100km towing 2.2 tonnes—and whenever we hit steep climbs, the dual electric motors pulled effortlessly without hunting gears!
    • Overnight Free-Camping: Plugged the caravan's 15A shore-power inlet straight into the Shark's tub V2L socket to run the caravan air-con and microwave silently.

11.4 L/100km towing 2.2 tonnes is better than my friend's Ranger V6 diesel, PLUS you get a silent 6 kW power station in the tub to run the caravan rooftop A/C at rest stops!

@C_Morris_SE Holding 60% SOC in Forced Mode from the start of the tow leg is the golden rule on the Shark 6—keeps plenty of Blade Battery buffer for long hill climbs.

@CraigWilson_NZ Did regenerative braking help much coming down steep ranges with the 2.2T van behind you?

@sebastian_camp_uk Massively! Regenerated 14% SOC coming down the range and barely had to touch the friction brake pedal—trailer brakes stayed stone cold.

Can confirm from my own ownership log — keeping tyre pressures at 2.5 bar cold instead of the dealer-delivered 2.2 bar immediately shaved about 0.8 kWh/100km off my highway average.

I ran the exact same test last month on a rainy weekend trip. Regen braking in High mode remained super predictable, and the LFP pack voltage delta stayed under 12 mV on my OBD2 scanner.

Thanks for sharing the real-world numbers! Dealers rarely explain this clearly during handover, so having verified owner telemetry on the forum saves everyone a lot of guesswork.

Great write-up! If anyone is on the fence, definitely take a 45-minute test drive on coarse-chip highway tarmac first — the acoustic glass makes a bigger difference than the spec sheet suggests.

For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.
