Perth to Exmouth & Ningaloo Reef (2,750 km Coral Coast Road Trip) in BYD Shark 6 Towing a Boat!
-
Just got back from a 2,750 km WA Coral Coast fishing trip from Perth up to Kalbarri, Carnarvon, and Exmouth / Ningaloo Reef in our BYD Shark 6 towing a 1,650 kg 6-metre aluminium centre-console boat!

On-Road Impressions, Efficiency & Setup Details
- Slippery boat ramps at Coral Bay and Exmouth were a breeze with AWD electric torque + Auto Hold (zero rear wheelspin on wet algae ramps).
- Cleaned and vacuumed the boat at the ramp using a wet/dry shop vac plugged into the Shark's 240V tub socket!

Pulling a 1.65T boat up a slippery wet algae ramp with dual-motor electric AWD and zero clutch/gearbox jerk is unbeatable.

@James_SealU_UK And running a 240V shop vac and chest freezer in the tub up at Ningaloo Reef makes fish filleting and freezing so easy!

@Andy_DashcamUK What did your fuel economy average towing the 6m centre-console at 100 km/h up the North West Coastal Highway?

@Ciara_SealU_Cork Averaged 10.2 L/100km for the whole 2,750 km trip—about 2.5 L/100km less than my mate's D-Max towing the same size boat!

Appreciate the honest perspective! Every EV and PHEV platform has trade-offs, and seeing real long-term feedback like this is why independent owner forums are way more useful than brochure numbers.

Spot on breakdown. One detail I noticed after logging another 2,500 km is that the thermal management loop stays completely silent below 32°C ambient unless you chain two fast DC sessions back-to-back.

For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.

One extra tip from our owners group: after changing any energy recovery or chassis mode, save it to your driver profile so DiLink keeps it across key cycles.
