We love our 5-seater BYD, but with two growing teenagers and grandparents visiting, we've been waiting for a proper 5-metre 3-row 7-seater. Just dug through the full spec sheet on the upcoming BYD Sealion 8:

Anyone holding out for the 7-Seater BYD Sealion 8 (5,040mm 3-Row SUV)? Full DM-p & EV specs inside!

    1. Key Highlights & What Stood Out to Me

For larger families waiting for a dedicated 3-row 7-seater SUV above the Sealion 6 and Sealion 7, here is the full specification breakdown of the BYD Sealion 8 (7-Seater Flagship SUV) heading to global export markets:

    • Dimensions: 5,040 mm length × 1,996 mm width × 2,950 mm wheelbase (genuine adult-sized 3rd row + 2-3-2 or 2-2-2 captain's chair layout).
    • Powertrains: Available in both 5th-Gen DM-p AWD Plug-In Hybrid (400 kW, 1,250 km combined range) and 800V Pure EV AWD.
    • Chassis: Standard DiSus-C adaptive damping + rear-axle steering for easy school-run parking.

    2. Closer Look at the Specs & Hardware Packaging

Technical Parameter Official BYD Specification & Benchmark
Platform Architecture e-Platform 3.0 Evo with CTB (Cell-to-Body) Integration
Drivetrain & Peak RPM 23,000 RPM Traction Motor (Up to 390 kW / 690 Nm AWD)
DC Fast Charging Peak Up to 230 kW CCS2 (10% to 80% SOC in ~24 Minutes)
    Chassis & Safety DiSus-C Adaptive Damping + 5-Star ANCAP/Euro NCAP (93% Child)

    3. DM-p Plug-In Hybrid vs 800V Pure EV for a 7-Seater Family Hauler?

If you were ordering the 7-seater Sealion 8 for school runs and interstate family holidays, would you go for the 400 kW DM-p Super Hybrid (1,250 km range) or the 800V Pure EV AWD version?

A 5.04-metre 7-seater with 5th-Gen DM-p AWD plug-in hybrid power and DiSus-C suspension is going to be the ultimate family cruiser against the Kia EV9 and Santa Fe Hybrid!

        @Matilda_Jackson Love that they included rear-wheel steering on the 2,950 mm wheelbase—makes a 5-metre 7-seater turn like a mid-size hatch.

@colinj86 Keen to trade our 2023 Atto 3 up to the Sealion 8 DM-p as soon as showroom demonstrators land here in Sydney!

Can confirm from my own ownership log — keeping tyre pressures at 2.5 bar cold instead of the dealer-delivered 2.2 bar immediately shaved about 0.8 kWh/100km off my highway average.

For anyone reading this later: make sure you enable SOC calibration by charging to 100% on AC at least once every two to three weeks so the BMS range estimator stays dead accurate.

My experience has been almost identical over the past 4 months. Zero rattles in the cabin so far, and the 360-degree camera clarity at night is still the best in its price bracket.

I ran the exact same test last month on a rainy weekend trip. Regen braking in High mode remained super predictable, and the LFP pack voltage delta stayed under 12 mV on my OBD2 scanner.

Can confirm the latest DiLink OTA firmware smoothed out the power delivery curve and improved wireless CarPlay reconnection speed noticeably.

Thanks for sharing the real-world numbers! Dealers rarely explain this clearly during handover, so having verified owner telemetry on the forum saves everyone a lot of guesswork.

Spot on breakdown. One detail I noticed after logging another 2,500 km is that the thermal management loop stays completely silent below 32°C ambient unless you chain two fast DC sessions back-to-back.

Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Tested these exact settings on my weekend highway run and cabin NVH + efficiency were spot on.

Interesting point about the charging curve. I found that plugging in around 15–18% SOC gives the fastest sustained peak kW before the BMS gently tapers above 80%.
