3-Night Off-Grid V2L Camping in the Scottish Highlands (NC500) with Our BYD Seal AWD
-
Took our BYD Seal Excellence AWD up the North Coast 500 in Scotland for a 4-day, 3-night road trip and slept at two off-grid lochside campsites using 3.3 kW V2L power.

On-Road Impressions, Efficiency & Setup Details
- Ran a 1,500W induction hob, electric kettle, heated throw blankets, and charged our camera drone batteries.
- Across 3 nights of V2L usage, we used just 14% total battery SOC (~11.5 kWh).
- Even on single-track Highland roads with 1,200m of elevation gain, regenerative braking recovered tons of energy on the descents!

Running heated blankets and an induction kettle by a Scottish loch with zero engine noise is peak EV life!

@Henry_C_TangEV How did the low front splitter on the Seal handle the Highland single-track passing places and cattle grids?

@connor.smith Zero scrapes! Clearance is 145mm and the 360° transparent chassis camera view lets you place the front wheels millimetre-perfect on rough verges.

@WillowM_UK Inspired us to book our Lake District V2L camping trip next month—thanks for sharing the SOC numbers!

Thanks for sharing the real-world numbers! Dealers rarely explain this clearly during handover, so having verified owner telemetry on the forum saves everyone a lot of guesswork.

I ran the exact same test last month on a rainy weekend trip. Regen braking in High mode remained super predictable, and the LFP pack voltage delta stayed under 12 mV on my OBD2 scanner.
-
Good catch on those specifications. I checked the service manual torque specs and fuse layout over the weekend and everything matches what you outlined here.

Subscribed to this thread. Has anyone here compared this behaviour before and after the latest DiLink OTA firmware update? Mine felt noticeably smoother in low-speed traffic afterwards.
